INDIANAPOLIS – The educated guess among some NFL officials attending the NFL Draft combine is the Green Bay Packers will use their first-round pick in this year’s draft on a defensive back or possibly an outside linebacker.
If the Packers go the db route, they are likely to consider Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie of TennesseeState.
While Rodgers-Cromartie labored at a relatively-small school, he clearly showed he has big-time potential with an outstanding performance at the Senior Bowl.
Physically, Rodgers-Cromartie seems to have the tools necessary to excel at the NFL level. He has the ideal height at 6-foot-2.
“That’s a great advantage for me,’’ said the affable Rodgers-Cromartie. “It’s hard for quarterbacks to drop the ball over me.’’
And Rodgers-Cromartie has the speed. Amazing speed. He clams he ran a blistering 4.26 40-yard dash as a junior.
There is another appealing quality to Rodgers-Cromartie’s game: He is a playmaker. He had 11 picks at TennesseeState.
Compound that productivity with his mind-set of transforming every interception into a touchdown -- “Every time I get my hands on the ball, that’s all I’m thinking.’’ – and you can see why Rodgers-Cromartie’s stock is soaring.
Rodgers-Cromartie, who has the versatility to play cornerback or safety, told me that Jacksonville, which picks 26th, and Dallas, which picks 28th, have shown the most interest in him.
He also noted New England has also been highly interested, although the Patriots don’t have a late first-round pick.
While Rodgers-Cromartie said he hasn’t talked to any Packers officials, he was fairly sure the Packers were interested him because… “my coach said they did.’’
Brewpackman... nittpickery. For Dallas and the Jags, interest is not the same as picking. Woelfel was only reporting on what the guy says he ran and clearly states that the guy "claimed" it (meaning it hadn't been verified with the undertone of being not believable).
Woelfel may post some horrible articles, but come on, at least use some logic in your criticism.
We should be thankful that Gery posted some Packer news and not another story about the Milwaukee Yucks, who remain 20.5 games behind the central division leading Pistons!
judging by this player's quotes, he seems like a cocky little focker.

sounds like another Buckley to me, albeit w/ better size...and tell me, what DB isn't thinking touchdown after every pick? ... Picking at #30, the Pack will probably be in position to take the best player available regardless of position rather than having the flexibility to draft in the 1st rd. based on need. Where are the greatest needs anyhow? O-line? or DB/safety? If #4 is in the equation a veteran free agent O-lineman would probably be a better decision than drafting an unproven rookie w/ such a low pick. They should get in the Alan Faneca sweepstakes but I would be shocked to see that happen...
I see them staying at number 30 and taking a CB or Offensive Guard they will probaly take CB with Division 1 experience not some nobody from Tennessee State. I say they take that kid from Kansas Aqib Talib if he is available if not they will take Reggie Smith Oklahoma.
