Please...Only Boos at Favre's return to Green Bay on Sunday.
Posted by: racinenativemn on October 29, 2009 at 1:06AM CST
I was just wondering if anyone is going to cheer when Favre comes onto the field at Lambeau. I most certainly hope not. We need to give him the loudest boos we have ever given anyone. Go Green Bay!!

I don't agree Dave. The fans should use their intelligence and remember what a great job Favre did when he played for Green Bay. Everyone watching would really be surprised, and the Packers would receive much respect from the whole NFL.

I'm not a football fan, so I don't know the details about Favre's leaving, but didn't he kind of get fired?

I mean, if they let him go, wouldn't that mean that he could go play for someone else who wanted to pick him up?

I remember him retiring a bunch of times, kind of like Michael Jordan.....but in the end, didn't Green Bay tell him that they didn't want him anymore?

He did a great job for the Packers for many years and I agree with Algie (as I usually do.) We should show our intelligence and respect for what he did for the Packers. I mean, it doesn't need to be a ticker-tape parade or anything, but booing is unnecessary and sets a bad example for the kids.

I just can't do it. Living in Minnesota makes it 10 times harder. I just can't do it.

Isn't Wisconsin bigger than that? Right now he is just a center(?) on a rival team. We have bigger fish to fry. Just hope we beat them and let it go.

I agree Sassa.

A center on another team that we fired? Not exactly.

I don't know why I would ever cheer for the quarterback of another team on our turf. We never asked him to jerk everyone around a dozen times because he wasn't feeling adored enough and the Head Coach wasn't doing what HE wanted done. Thompson had enough of him announcing he was retiring over and over, forcing everyone to try and retool and then go back when he decided he wanted to stay, that he said "enough." Good for him.

Maybe Brett should have thought about how much Green Bay and their fans did for him. He did a great job, but he was forgiven for every mistake he ever made, no questions asked. And there were a lot of them. So long, Brent.

I won't boo, but I cheer for my team's quarterback. Not our greatest rival's. He was classy when he beat us, hopefully Rodgers will have a chance to do the same. Then I'll cheer.

Dr, this blogger asked if anyone would cheer when Favre takes the field. He certainly hopes not, and would rather have everyone boo. While I agree with some of your remarks, it reminds me of another story. The story of Holmgren who took the Packers to the super bowl, but that still wasn't good enough for Green Bay. Holmgren and Favre were a fabulous working team for Green Bay. This is getting to look like the Cubs. Get rid of every good player and expect to win games.

I think Rogers is a good quarterback albeit nobody protects the poor guy. He was sacked 7 times in one game! But I think he will make his mark for the Packers.

Again Wisconsin, take the high road and don't boo Brent Favre. You don't need to do anything. That would be the class act nobody expects.

algernon - I don't understand what you mean by "that wasn't enough for Green Bay." it wasn't enough for Holmgren just being Head Coach. He wanted to be GM too, so he left for Seattle so he could be an even bigger cheese. He wasn't chased out, just like Favre wasn't chased out. They both got too big for their britches. And they were so good I don't fault them for it, but I can't commend them for it either.

Favre did not perform a well his first two years starting as Rodgers has, so I have a lot of hope for him. You're right, he does great when he's given enough time to!

I think Holmgren should have been GM! It would have been a different story for the Packers if he had been. Favre performed very well under Holmgren as did Reggie White and the rest. They had the greatest ball club one can imagine. No one can fault Brett Favre, for he is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Nobody can argue that! I wish him well.

I agree with most of what you say algernon, but I fault Favre for how he handled himself, regardless of how goo he is. Like I said, no one asked him to announce he was retiring and then change his mind a dozen times so that no one in the organization knew which way was up, much less the fans. If he hadn't yanked everyone's chain over and over, he'd still be starting for the Packers.

Sorry, I will not cheer him EVER again. I am a Packer fan, first, last, and forever. The minute he puts on the uniform of another team is the minute he loses his status in my eyes. The fact it's a Vikings uniform makes it that much worse.

Bye, Brent!

Go Packers!

Hey AWBC, how was Cabo?

Posted by: Edge Distance on October 29, 2009 9:32PM CST
I agree Favre was acting stupid, he should have stayed quiet on retiring, & stayed with Green Bay. I think he still a pretty good quarterback. His arm seems to be back, and he has a very good front line this year. I wish him well.
I hope we kick his butt this week. Rodgers and the offense really look good.

Booing will only motivate him to play at a higher level as well as show no class on our part.

Posted by: Sassa on October 30, 2009 9:43AM CST
Yes the book I read, INSTANT REPLAY, said never say anything before the game to dis the other team. They will play harder and want revenge. Always talk nice about them.

I read an interesting article at yahoo. Instead of boos or cheers give him silence. No noise at Lambeau for Favre might be more distracting.

Posted by: algernon on November 1, 2009 8:53AM CST
I agree racinenativemn. But we will see today. I doubt the Packer fans will be able to hold themselves, and they will boo. Big mistake.

Posted by: DobberDeeDee on November 1, 2009 9:41PM CST
Well, he sure showed us all what for, didn't he?

Ya gotta kinda admire that!

Posted by: ButtonBoy on November 2, 2009 9:04AM CST
I don't admire him at all. He quit not one team, but two, all in an effort to game the system. He also left the staff of the Jets with hefty fines for admitting publicly that he should have been placed on their injury report several weeks of last season. He is a selfish player. I couldn't give a rip about him.

Posted by: algernon on November 2, 2009 1:34PM CST
I agree with DDD. Sorry Button Boy. Nothing that he has done takes from the fact that he is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time! He proved it yesterday.

Green Bay should have been smart and kept both Holmgren and Favre. You don't fix something that isn't broken. What a ball club they had! And I am not even a Packer Fan! But I love excellence no matter how it is presented.

Posted by: DobberDeeDee on November 2, 2009 3:23PM CST
Sorry, BB....I guess I just don't care much about football....so I'm not invested in Favre. But I can understand your points, too.

Now, just try being a Cubs fan.....OMG....that's my cross to bear. But it builds character! HA, and the biggest sheesh you can find.

He RETIRED! Twice!

Posted by: Dr. Awkward on November 2, 2009 8:30PM CST
Seeing as how he has retired from three different teams, he's retired a lot more than twice. I don't think one's athletic ability excuses them from selfish and immature behavior. Being one of the best quarterbacks of all time is no excuse for being a prima donna.

Posted by: algernon on November 4, 2009 5:04PM CST
Dr Awkward, His athletic ability enables him to play great football. Isn't this what it's all about? Or are you worried about the business end of it or the sour grapes that are so evident in your remark?
