Racine’s own Mark Czerniec is without a doubt my favorite local Twitter personality (Tweeter, Twitterer, Twitterato, whatever you want to call them).
A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writer on Thursday anointed 20 local “tweeters” that she considered among the city’s Twitterati in an article in the paper’s Cue section.
It made me think of Mr. Czerniec. I’m not gaga over Twitter. Truth be told, I spend more time on Facebook. Yes, to some, that could be considered a sad admission.
I still check Twitter from time to time, but I consider myself a half-hearted hobbyist when it comes to this particular social networking site. I’m still new to the whole social networking thing. It’s hard to keep up.
However, when I do check Twitter, I’m always glad to see Mark Czerniec’s Tweets. They’re always engaging. It could be his years of experience in radio. He considers his audience.
He highlights recipes he’s working on, links to articles he’s read or lists the birds who’ve visited his yard in Racine. It’s all good stuff, in my opinion.
So, are you on Twitter? Who do you follow in the Racine area? Who should we be following?
Cherteapet, It takes a little while for it to load, I just discovered. I hope it works. Paul

Wow, thank you so much, Paul.
I don't know much about @Don_Crowther, but he has an awful lot of followers and many good links regarding online marketing. @Arisu_2 is a wry receptionist who also blogs at fresh mincemeat.
The Journal Times' own @ j_e_anderson often tweets about stories she's covering; interesting stuff. @WIA tweets Wisconsin emergency calls, sometimes in Racine.
You can find more local tweeps using Twitter Search to look near a ZIP code or just by searching for Racine. There are also directories like Twellow and Localtweeps.
I just don't get the whole twitter deal. I admit I am not 100% up to speed on it, but why do you want to tell the world about everything you do (in 140 or less)?? Do I really care what's cooking for dinner or what you saw on your way to work? Is everything we do that noteworthy that we have to tell the universe about it? What is the point? How is this different than texting? Seems like a huge waste of time and resources. Just one guy's opinion.
Nothing against tweeters, but really, I don't care what you're having for dinner. I don't even like people on facebook posting stuff that's pretty irrelevant. Does anyone care what I'm doing besides my immediate family or close friends? Personally, I really hope not!

I really have no interest in it either, but here's the thing for the harsh critics of those who do. The people who don't care what you're up to...aren't reading it! The only people who are checking out someone's twitter or facebook page are those who ARE interested! Otherwise they wouldn't be there checking it out!
If you are quitely whispering in the corner of a crowded train station, the universe will not have any idea you are speaking. Only those who are crowded around straining to listen will. And each and every one of them will tell you that for some reason or another, they are interested.
If I walked up to you in a library and said "I just don't get the whole ( insert your topic of interest here) thing. I mean I couldn't imagine being the slightest bit interested in that book you're reading. Who cares about that?! It's sooooo boring!" What would your response be?
How can Mark's dinner updates be a waste of anyone's time if they have never spent a millisecond of your time reading about them? Just don't search the billions of webpages for his twitter account or click on a link that clearly says it will take you to his twitter account, and I personally guarantee you you will never, ever come across his twitter account.
This Internet 101 lesson can be applied to any topic. Don't click on it and you won't see it, which will result in no time wasted on it.
Its just for laughs. If you dont care what I'm eating for dinner, stop following me. I have no interest in going to church, but I would never call it pointless or stupid. We all like different things. As long as nobody is getting harmed, it's allright.
Sensitive a little? I didn't suggest people not use it. I said I didn't get it. On facebook once you sign up as someone's friend you either get all their updates or none.......that's your two choices. I get the wall-to-wall on facebook. I get the messages on there. What I don't get is when someone is using facebook to set up some sort of group of interest on a specific topic and then they add all this other stuff, like what they had for lunch. I don't know enough about twitter so I guess I will check it out. I think it would be great for organizations as long as people don't throw stuff out there that is not relevant.

I'm just presenting a different perspective, Kay. I said I didn't get it either.
You said you didn't like people posting whatever they like ("I don't even like people on facebook posting stuff that's pretty irrelevant."). The irrelevance, of course, is subjective. You don't like them posting what is irrelevant to you. That strays a bit from "I don't get it." It sounds like your grip should be with how these sites are set up or work, not with what people choose to do with their pages on them.
Yeah, no thanks. I have a Twitter account that I update once a month or so... when I remember that I have one. :) I wonder if "popular" Twitterists (proper terminology?) feel obligated to tweet every hour or so just to satisfy their followers.
I wrote a comment before but it 'disappeared'. I just joined Tweeter and received 2 answers from old school mates. WOW. All I msg them was that I didn't know what the hell I was doing...and how to get my pic on it rather than a profile of a guy. BTW I am a girl. LOL Oh. I just do it on the internet. I don't have a Ipod, etc. or even a cell phone.
pps who you should be following @howeezy @chadmlock @Arisu_2 @quezed @ronpurtee @fivefifthsdead @piirtoeri @stevehawkins @TerryKaprelian @geektyrant @simpleprimate @peewinkle and like i said moi @sugartank all locals with much to say about nothing but all in all its always interesting!

While I write on a daily basis, as a reporter, I'm new to blogging. Rather than mix business with pleasure, I've decided to use this blog for writing about subjects different from my work on the Education Beat. Since this is all new frontier to me, it may be a few days before I start a blog here devoted to education related topics, but I plan to do so. I'm no one trick pony. On this blog, I will occasionally wax poetic on a variety of delightful topics, like the ethics of Charlie Brown or finding spiritual nourishment from bad TV. All I ask is that, if you must comment, be kind. I do not suffer fools gladly. Enjoy!
