I forgot how gross baby food is until a few months ago when I started feeding it to my daughter.
Here's the hierarchy of baby food as far as I'm concerned:
Meats - I will NEVER serve them again. They are the absolute nastiest thing, especially when they come back up.
Green beans - None of my children liked them. They can wait a few months to eat them whole, which tastes better.
Prunes - The absolute worst at staining bibs, shirts, faces, walls and high chair straps.
Bananas - The SMELL is unlike any food I've ever tasted, and does not even closely resemble a banana. I've started to simply mash bananas on my own and feed them to my daughter.
Carrots, sweet potatoes, peas and peaches - I can handle.
Applesauce and pears - These are the only baby foods I actually find appealing.
As I am on my third child now, I've gotten a little more relaxed about feeding her. I remember being very regimented about the type of baby food I fed my first, when I moved on to the next level, when I started feeding him table food, etc. I have no problem now making my own baby food: mashed potatoes, yams, bananas, pieces of bread, cheese, and the like.
What are the worst baby foods in your opinion. Or what do you remember being disgusted by when your children were infants?
The baby meats have always been gross. I used to simmer chicken, turkey and beef until tender, then pull it off the bone. Chill it in the refrigerator. I then used a food processor to chop it up. I froze it in ziplock bags and then added it to the pureed vegetables, or made mashed potatoes and added it to that. Much better tasting, healthier (no salt or preservatives) and way less gross.

I look at it this way. Try it on the dog first. If the dog doesn't eat it, then definitely don't give it to the kid.
KK, I did the same thing. I got a baby food processor for a baby shower gift and it was the only thing I used constantly. If you can't get fresh vegtables, frozen is the way to go. I did the same thing with meat, boiled chicken, and stuck it in the processor.
My daughter liked the earths best when we were there as well. I did find it strange that the baby food there in the states had added salt and sugars. Here in Sweden they do not have any of that. I'm grateful that she's old enough now that she just eats whatever we eat. Makes things much easier.
I am one of those moms that tastes everything I feed to my baby. If I think its gross he more than likely will too. The meats are nasty and I will never give those to him. My oldest refused them simply because of the way it smelled, and I guess my hubby missed those times because the last time he picked up baby food he actually got about 3 jars of the meat combo junk. I didn't have the heart to tell him that there was no way in Hades that I would feed that to the little guy.
With my oldest two, I fed baby food from jars. With the last one (he's definitely the luckiest) I wised up and started making my own. It's so easy too, tastes better and is healthier.
