So it's FREEZING outside and our kids are stuck indoors for most of the next three months. Ugh. I'm getting cabin fever just thinking about it. How do you keep your kids entertained and active during winter? What are your favorite kid-friendly winter activities?
And for days when it's just too cold out there: Where are your favorite indoor escapes, where kids can get some exercise despite the walls that surround them?

We used to play different things in our basement. Of courswe that's where the furnace was and we would set up plastic bowling pins, build hot wheels tracks, play school with the chalkboard on the wall. We also had a pool table as we got older and we would spend hours in the basement.
We go to Mc Donald's to play after lunch and the kids may get a "treat"(not always) chuck e cheese is another good one and if your really brave bundle up and go outside for 15-30 min for fresh air and fun

We have friends over, but you must be able to tolerate noise.
I've bought Moon Bop for my son. It's a ball that's attached to a base. Figured it would be good for practicing soccer. My son has also done indoor soccer, and will probably do the open gym for RASA this year. The RecPlex in Pleasant Prarie is very nice, with it's indoor pools and slides. Day trips to the museum are also a fun way to pass time on the weekends. Don't really get 'cabin fever' during the week. It's just too busy between my work and sons school.
Geeze Tina, are you my clone bizarro person? We did the same things. Bowling, play school, Barbies in the basement. We also had an old fashioned jumping hobby horse on springs that the kids named Dawn, go figure....the kids loved to play down there.
When I was little my parents kept my brother and I involved with activities at the YMCA like basketball, indoor soccer, tumbling courses, swimming. It is a good way to become social with other kids in your community and lets mom and dad get active in the fitness room or meet up with friends for a round of racquetball.
I am a firm believer of child enrichment programs and think parents should search their community for learning centers in their neck-of-the-woods. I currently represent New York Kids Club in Manhattan and enjoy describing all the benefits to parents interested in the programs available. If anyone knows some in the Manhattan/Brooklyn area that want to get their children involved in activities tell them to check out www.nykidsclub.com.
KK, I had one of those brown and white spring horses myself. We definately grew up in the same era/generation. My grandfather built me a table and chairs set with a matching hutch to keep my abay dishes, I had a high chair that I used as a baby, the one with the metal tray and lefted over your head. I still have that chair, it's probably worth a fortune by now. Had the easy bake oven down there, it was like my own little apartment. Had a couch, black and white TV, I would fall asleep on the couch all the time. I remember when mom did the laundry on Sundays and it was cold outside, I used to pile up the sheets on the floor in front of the washer and lean up against it to fell the vibration and water slooshing bakc and forth and it would relax me some much I'd fall asleep. Then here comes mom flipping on the light and grabbing for the sheets and here I was under neath them all, scared the living crap out of her. Then when she would put clothes int he dryer, I'd lean up against that to feel the warmth. I was a bizarro child !!!
my basement was Barbie land. Had the shelves that were mounted to the walls and I turned then into apartments or loft penthouses for her & her friends. Further on down was the salon, and what have you..clothing store. You name it I had it ;-) In another section of the basement I too had a couch and the cardboard 'house' and a store front thing. I really didn't play over in that section much though...stayed in Barbie land most the time. Good thing we had a full bathroom down there ;-) I'm not sure if kids do this kind of stuff no a days or...maybe just girls did that type of stuff...or maybe it's just I really haven't had a 'basement' for my son to play in since he was VERY young. But that was nice, I kept the ball pit down there, all his big annoying toys. That was a nice basement I had. But since I've been in apartments ;( or @ my boyfriends house which was NO place for a kid to play...I didn't even like going down there for laundry...damp, hunting stuff, work supplies, stuff I didn't even know what it was...cobweb castle...definitely NOT a finished basement

I take hailey bowling - she loves that. I also got her the fisher price smart cycle. Its a video game built into a bicycle. In order to play certain games - you must peddle! How great! Educational (all the games are educational - no violence at all!) and excercise! This is the best thing EVER!
