Worst winter in 40 years? I DON'T THINK SO!
We used to have winters without the thaws we've had this winter. We used to have 55 gallon barrels of sand at most busy corners to help with traction on the street corners and sidewalks.
We used to have cleanup crews that actually did their jobs and had enough time left over to plow paths through the parks so we could walk to school.

but thanks to all the city workers who have been out there working their hineys off to clear our streets. no easy task!

Great...let's start by not plowing streets on Monday/Tuesday snow. You want service? Pay up! Nothing is free. Bad year? Tough! Deal with it

I have an idea to stay with in budgets. How about government shutdowns. If you don't have the money to operate shut down a few extra days per year!

Ok people. Settle down. Clearly we did have a record breaking snow fall. You cranky people, get over it. People and children need to get to work and school safely. What do you want the Department of Public Works in Racine, Mt. Pleasant, Caledonia, etc. to do? They are up risking their lives in the middle of the nights clearing the roads so we can make it to our destination. All of SE Wisconsin had a shortage of salt. Did any of you people actually read the statistics this past year or do you just like to bitch? I live in Caledonia and I appreciate everything that was done to make it safer for my family to get to their destinations. Yes, they had to put in overtime. Yes, we had to purchase more salt, sand, combination stuff to put on the roads. Mayor Becker and other leaders should definitely make sure the budget meets the needs of the community at whole. We need safe roads, in good condition, ALL year round. I don't mind paying taxes for these services as they are needed. Really, the Taxpayers Association needs to put a zipper with a lock on their mouths and loose the key!
