So you have been out drinking with some friends, and now it is late and you’re drunk. What do you do? Well apparently all you have to do is tell the bartender “I need a Safe Ride” Next thing you know there is a cab waiting to take you home free of charge. Too good to be true?????? Well that is the question I am proposing to all you bloggers. See the thing is, this is in fact a very true scenario. Wisconsin’s SafeRide enacted on May 3, 2000 with an effective date of January 1, 2001 by the 1999 Wisconsin Act 109. It is now state statute 85.55. The goal being to provide an alternative means of transportation and thus to decrease the crashes, injuries and deaths that occur when intoxicated patrons attempt to drive home from drinking establishments. Sounds great right? Well here is the catch, I do not know if our beloved Racine is a participant in this SafeRide program. I have been living and drinking here since before 2001, and I have never ever heard of this program, nor can I find any info that links Racine too it. With Troloween looming any day (Which I am very excited about) I wonder is this SafeRide available, because if so you can believe me, this Saturday I will be signing up for it. So back to you bloggers, help me out, does any one know anything about this. Some one please not only tell me I am wrong, but tell me where to get more info about it. THANKS, AND NO MATTER WHAT PROGRAMS WE HAVE OR DON’T HAVE PLEASE EVERYIONE DRIVE SAFE.!!!! * This is the only thing I have found so far.
