I asked Dick Gleissner about his $15,000 donation to fund the Racine senior softball program. Here are some snippets from our conversation: (on why he did it) "When I was growing up, during the summertime ... we were out there every day playing ball. So this is what I appreciate, what they're doing for us. No. 2, there was a budget crisis. During the Rec Department's early years, they didn't have enough balls for the senior team to play. So we all chipped in two dollars apiece so we could continue playing with a good ball." (on what he gets out of the league) The league is always looking for players 55 and older. Stop by Lockwood Park on Wednesday mornings at 9, or call the city recreation department at 636-9455.
