Sometimes there's just not enough room in the newspaper for all the stories about one of Racine's greatest assets -- our teens. Often, its the less-than-wonderful news about Racine teens that makes the front page. So, here's a spot where you can brag about or leave messages of appreciation for the teens you know. I'll even start us off with a couple of our own Achievers. (All of our Achievers are amazing, but for the sake of time and space, I'm going to highlight only a couple.) *Guinevere B. Guin, despite any circumstances that have attempted to thwart your success, you have continuously pushed in the direction of excellence. You are a wonderful example to others that it is hard work and perseverance, not merely chance, that result in achievement of your goals. At 15, you already demonstrate a level of maturity and wisdom beyond your years. I know it's hard to balance two jobs, community service, AND maintain that over 4.0 GPA. I don't know many adults that could handle the load you carry every day. So, Guin, I'm writing this to let you know that we see how hard you've worked and how much you give back to the people around you. Thank you, Guin. I'm so glad you're a part of Racine. *Jamel G. Jamel, I am impressed with your passion for the people of our community. Over the past year, as President of Youth Against Violence, I have watched you delve into the causes of violence in our community, thoroughly examining the many issues underlying this problem. I know that you have a vision of peace for Racine, and you have repeatedly demonstrated that you are willing to put in whatever work is necessary to achieve that goal. I fully expect to see you sitting in that Common Council chair in the not-so-distant future, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least to one day take another group of young Achievers to visit you at your office in Washington. Jamel, you have a true heart for people, and that is going to take you a long way. I'd tell you that you're going to be a great leader in our community one day, but the truth is...you already are. Racine is blessed to have you!
