What's your favorite indie media?
Posted by: RacinePost on December 3, 2007 at 6:39AM CST
The Journal Times is the big dog when it comes to local media, sending out some 30,000 papers daily across the county. But a growing number of blogs and websites are offering an alternative to mainstream media like the JT. What are your favorite local blogs and sites? Who's doing a good job? Where would you like to see more coverage (or someone step up to fill a gap)?

Here are some local blogs to consider:

REAL DEBATE WISCONSIN
BLUE RACINE
KAT'S CRADLE
CALEDONIA UNPLUGGED
RACINE'S REPORT CARD
MOUNT PLEASANT CITIZEN
FREE RACINE
PREACHRBLOG
JESSICA'S REVIEWS
DAILY KENOSHAN
EXPOSE KENOSHA
TEXAS HOLD 'EM BLOGGER

I read the daily crap in the JT, watch the talking heads out of Milwaukee at 5:00pm, always watch the nightly news at 5:30, usually over my shoulder. There is a very good program on Sunday mornings on CBS at 8 am (more indepth than the regular news) that makes you think about things outside of the daily minutia. I find my fellow bloggers are very up on things and I learn from them too. :)

One blog that I used to read but can't anymore because I get disgusted by the blatant sexism and racism in the comments....which are allowed or defended by it's author....is Badger Blogger. I mean when you start talking about nooses in the inner city to combat crime it has gone too far...not to mention Glenn's constant axe grinding regarding Nan Hagerty. Okay...so she wasn't a great leader and/or police chief... neither were the men before her. Why make it about her gender?? I just wonder what color he is going to assign to the new police chief. Get over it Glenn...

At least get the context right. badger Blogger is not a racist blog. The context of the rope and the tree comes from the Old West. Ever watch a Western, when the cattle rustler or bandit found justice at the end of a rope? Or the old Clint Eastwood Western, "Hang 'Em High"?

I don't really care if someone is offended. No one has a constitutional right not to be offended.
