The unintended consequences of Doyle's budget?
Posted by: Questioning on July 13, 2009 at 1:14PM CST

As we all know, many school districts are facing deficits because their preliminary budgets for the upcoming school year were done before the governor signed the state budget.

RUSD, Racine county's largest school district, will be receiving  $8.2M less than expected under the new budget.

To make up for the loss in state aid, the rate would need to increase to $8.09 from last year's $7.22. That increase would mean the owner of $100,000 home would pay $809.00 for the RUSD portion of their property taxes.

Home Value 2008-09 RUSD Levy * 2009-10 RUSD Levy Difference
$100,000.00 $722.00 $809.00 $87.00
$125,000.00 $902.50 $1,011.25 $108.75
$150,000.00 $1,083.00 $1,213.50 $130.50
$175,000.00 $1,263.50 $1,415.75 $152.25
$200,000.00 $1,444.00 $1,618.00 $174.00
$225,000.00 $1,624.50 $1,820.25 $195.75
$250,000.00 $1,805.00 $2,022.50 $217.50

* Proposed tax levy

The school board will be discussing the budget and the state aid decrease at their July 20th meeting. The meeting starts at 6:30PM, in Unified's administrative building on Northwestern Avenue.

Racine Unified officials have no formal ideas on new budget cuts. Instead they are looking for input from employees and the community. So,  it might be worth your time to stop in and voice your opinion, no matter what your opinion should be!

"unintended"? I don't think so.

This is just another way to raise our taxes without formally "raising" them.

Doyle is such slime. He slashes the state aid to places for schools, and then gets rid of the QEO, so that the local school boards can raise the levies to where ever they want. So we wind up paying more to the taxman, regardless of whether it's state income taxes or local property taxes.

Comes out of the same checkbook......either way.

Doyle is done. Put a fork in him.

ELECT SCOTT WALKER!

Any of you who are disturbed about this should seriously consider working to elect replacements for Doyle, Mason, and Lehmannn come the next election.

This is a call to arms - I urge all of you who are upset about this middle-of-the-night budget to go out and work for better candidates.

Considering Doyle's statement in his press release, Education has always been my top priority,” Governor Doyle said. “There is no better route to success for individuals and us as a state than solid educational opportunities.

Granted, there are some school districts that are actually seeing increases, but the majority of them have seen their state aid slashed.

That's why I question if this was an unintended consequence or if he and the legislators knew exactly what they were doing.

The RUSD has failed and continues to fail us while sucking down dollars like they come out of longneck bottles. If they were a company they would be in chapter eleven which our children will see before they see that chapter in their history class. Now their classes will consist of union, and liberal theology, and math and science will be put on the back burner, so they don't make some kids feel bad. Let the competition come in, and you'll see them change their tune.

Why is it that RUSD still maintains in house trades such as Carpenters and Painters and yet when a job such as the remodel of Frat school takes place we hire sub contractors to perform the work? RUSD needs to take a close look at all the dead wieght on Northwestern Ave, it's time to trim the fat Mr. Shaw.

So over all of it! Sick of governors making our lives harder. Our local boards telling us we cannot vote for the 10th ward. Yet, we had a early vote for Mayor. why do we let them do this to us??? Answer this one Q. It was ok when you ran for mayor to have a vote. The people that live in the 10th will hire the person for us.
What do you think about that change?
Make calls and let us tell them what we want! Start on Monday and call Mr. Q at home. Thanks for nothing.
