Q. Why was my comment deleted?
A. It was most likely due to swearing. Other reasons may include threatening / harassing comments directed toward other bloggers. Q. I reported a blog, why wasn't the comment/blog removed. A. If the blog is obviously spam, the blog will be removed as soon as possible. If the reason the blog was reported was due to a comment and the comment was not removed, it's probably because JT editors did not find that it warranted further action. Disagreeing with someone is not a personal attack. Addressing another blogger by name is not harassing unless it is accompanied by threats or other disparaging remarks. If someone continues to address you or challenges you (in a non-threatening way), it might be best just to ignore them. Words are just words. Do you have any other questions for JT Tech Guy? ...at least while you're posting blogs and comments to MyJournalTimes.com.
1. Keep it clean. Avoid language that is obscene, vulgar, lewd or sexually-oriented. If you can't control yourself, don't post it. 2. Don't threaten to hurt or kill anyone. 3. Be truthful. Don't lie about anyone or anything. 4. Be nice. No racism, sexism or any other sort of -ism that degrades another person. PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK, and forgive people their spelling errors. 5. Let us know if it's getting out of hand. Please use the "Report This Blog" button on offensive comments and give us the specifics. The notification we receive is anonymous, so we cannot individually respond to your complaint if you should have one. 6. Share what you know, ask about what you don't. Give us your eyewitness accounts, background, observations and history. What more do you want to know about the story? 7. Stay focused, and ask questions. Keep on the story's topic. And remember - don't feed the trolls. Thursday January 15, 2009

Resist making personal attacks or indulging in name-calling. If your item is deleted, tone it down a bit and try again. What to do if your account has been banned: If you try to login and receive a message that you've been banned, do not immediately open another user account and continue inappropriate behavior. Such action could result in a permanent ban. Instead, contact an administrator and find out what caused the sanction. We may or may not reinstate your privileges after such a contact. We are enhancing the MyJournalTimes section of our site. In addition to a new layout, we are upgrading the features and functions of the site. Soon you will be able to create Groups – another way to interact with others in a positive and meaningful way. Invite others to have discussions on the topics that mean the most to you! A group can also have their own photo album, so all of the group’s photos will be in one central location. Creating a group is easy and only takes a moment or two! We’re also enhancing the Neighborhood pages – we hope that readers will take advantage of the new Neighborhood features. Tell others the great (or not-so-great) things going on where you live or work! We look forward to making the MyJournalTimes pages a part of your daily routine. Thursday September 11, 2008

When you first glance at it, your favorite Journal Times' blog page may look a bit confusing. But take heart! Before you set sail on the page, clicking, commenting and posting...here are a few tips to help you navigate like a pro.A) Along with areas for the newest Photos, Videos, Members, and Latest Tags, the content you see on this page is basically divided into four parts: 1. Top Left ("Your Local Community"), you'll see news feeds organized by Racine's major geographic areas. Click here to read content that's really close to home. 2. Below left ("JT Staff Blogs"), you'll discover popular topics posted by Journal Times writers you've come to rely on. 3. In the middle of the page is everyone's favorite spot, the combined Community Blog Roll where your blog posts appear, and where you can freely comment on your fellow members' posts. 4. Top Right is a hand-picked list of Blogs, each with a colorful icon, (organized by subject) where you are invited to post and comment on current topics that are on everyone's mind. I sincerely hope this little tutorial helps you discover a more rewarding experience in the Journal Times community. Regards, JT Tech Guy |
